December 30, 2015 BRAC Bank distributes blankets at 2 former enclaves in Panchagarh
BRAC Bank Limited stood beside the people of two former enclaves in Panchagarh districts by distributing blankets among them.
BRAC Bank distributed blankets at Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib High School, Pramanik Para, Balapara, Khagrabari, Debiganj, Panchagarh and at Mofizar Rahman College, Garati, Panchagarh Sadar. Mr. Md. Shofiqul Islam, UNO, Debiganj, Mr. Sekander-E-Azam, Head of Cash Management & Custodial Services, and Zara Jabeen Mahbub, Head of Communication & Service Quality, handed over the blankets.
The humanitarian initiative was as part of BRAC Bank DAUR, the annual fundraising mini marathon. A portion of the fund donated by the employees was utilized to distribute blankets for the underprivileged people of the society. As a part of its corporate social responsibility, every year BRAC Bank distributes warm clothes to the less advantaged segment of society. This year the blanket distribution was special as for the first time, BRAC Bank extended its helping hands to the cold hit people living in former enclaves.

December 08, 2015 BRAC Bank relocates Ganakbari Branch to larger space for better customer service
BRAC Bank relocated its Ganakbari Branch to a larger space to provide modern banking services to growing customers in the industrial area.
Mr. Selim R.F. Hussain, Managing Director & CEO, BRAC Bank Limited, formally inaugurated the branch at Balibhadra Bazaar, Ganakbari, Dhamsuna in Ashulia. BRAC Bank Limited and SME Foundation signed an agreement to facilitate SME loan to cricket bat manufacturing entrepreneurs.
Under the agreement, BRAC Bank will provide access to credit to micro and small entrepreneurs involved in cricket bat manufacturing in the southern region of the country.

November 07, 2015 Selim R. F. Hussain appointed as the new Managing Director & CEO of BRAC Bank Limited
The Board of Directors of BRAC Bank Limited has appointed Mr. Selim R. F. Hussain as the bank's new Managing Director & CEO wef November 8, 2015. Hussain is a career banker and an immediate past CEO & Managing Director of IDLC Finance Limited who is widely recognized and highly acclaimed across the financial sector for being the architect of IDLC Finance's meteoric rise over the past six years. He was also the Chairman of the Board of Directors from 2010 to 2012 of IDLC Finance's two subsidiaries – IDLC Investments Limited and IDLC Securities Limited.
Hussain has an Honours degree in Accounting from Dhaka University and an MBA (Major in Finance) from the Institute of Business Administration, also from Dhaka University. He worked in various roles with the two largest multi-national banks in Bangladesh, ANZ Grindlays Bank and Standard Chartered Bank, for twenty four years, before moving to the IDLC Group in 2010. He has resided and worked in India and Australia for significant periods of his career and, prior to taking over the helm at IDLC Finance Limited, was the Head of Finance & Strategy for Standard Chartered Bank's Consumer Banking Division in Mumbai, India. Mr. Hussain was also CFO for Standard Chartered Bank, Bangladesh, from 2002 to 2007. Hussain was also a Director at the Credit Rating Agency of Bangladesh (CRAB) and the Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Leasing & Finance Co Association (BLFCA) since 2012.
Hussain will lead a large branch banking and SME network and is expected to step up Brac Bank's business momentum and inclusive banking initiatives and thereby fulfill the bank's vision of being a socially responsible and profitable financial institution focused on building a poverty free Bangladesh. He is expected to become a Director at various other Brac Bank subsidiaries e.g. Brac EPL Investments Ltd, Brac EPL Stock Brokerage Ltd, Brac Sajaan Exchange Ltd., Brac Information Technology Services Ltd and also at the latest Brac investment, IPDC of Bangladesh.
Hussain is married with one son and aside from enjoying reading and traveling, he is a keen cricket and football enthusiast.

BRAC Bank launched Smart Opener - a faster and smoother account opening service - and opened an account for Taskin Ahmed.
BRAC Bank also launched BRAC Bank Mobile Application for banking services. BRAC Bank launched these two state-of-the-art Technology-based services in line with Bangladesh Bank's digital financial inclusion strategy.
Powered with an advanced technology and tablet, any individual can enjoy faster and smoother account opening experience with BRAC Bank. With BRAC Bank Mobile a state-of-the-art mobile banking application (apps), customers of BRAC Bank can avail banking services from their Smart Phone anytime, anywhere. Both the digital financial inclusion initiatives were launched aiming to bring more people into the financial system using the latest technologies.
Smart Opener is the first of its kind account opening service where bank officials will visit customer's home or office to open account. Equipped with a tablet, bank officials will click customer photograph and necessary documents to open a BRAC Bank Account and complete other regulatory requirements. Interested individuals can set an appointment for this service by calling BRAC Bank's 24-Hour Call Center 16221 or by typing 'SO' and sending sms to 16221 or by sending an email to [email protected] . Initially the accounting opening facility will be available for Dhaka City Corporation area. Soon BRAC Bank will start the facility in other regions of the country.
With BRAC Bank Mobile, BRAC Bank customers can do transactions like Fund Transfer, Bill Payments, Mobile Topup, Credit Card bill payment and also can view their account information, mini statement, detail statement, transaction history and many other services. BRAC Bank Mobile is fully secured with Bangladesh Bank instructed Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). The apps can be downloaded from Google Play. Customers can login to BRAC Bank Mobile with their BRAC Bank Internet Banking User ID, Password and One-Time-Password (OTP). Soon it will be available on AppStore.

September 14, 2015 Windmill to organize the 'Home Fest Dhaka'15' The first ever Home Décor Expo in Bangladesh to be held in November
Windmill Initiative, an in-house effort of Windmill Group, for the first time everin Bangladesh, is going to organize a home décor expo in Bangladesh titled 'Home Fest Dhaka 2015', supported by BRAC Bank Ltd. September 07, 2015 BRAC Bank & Bloomberg L.P. organize seminar on "Development of Secondary Market"
Aiming to enhance dynamism in the secondary market, Treasury Division representatives from over 40 scheduled banks met in Dhaka to attend a seminar on "Development of Secondary Market" organized by BRAC Bank Limited, in partnership with, Bloomberg L.P.
The event was presided over by Mr. S.K. Sur Chowdhury, Deputy Governor, Bangladesh Bank. Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, and Mohammad Mamdudur Rashid, Deputy Managing Director, BRAC Bank, were present. Mr. Md. Awlad Hossain Chowdhury, General Manager, and Mr. Mainuddin Ahmed, Deputy General Manager, Debt Management Department of Bangladesh Bank, were also present.
Mr. Sudipto Lahiry, Business Manager- Fixed Income, Bloomberg L.P., led extensive presentations and discussions. Wide array of issues related to the secondary market such as development of yield curve and USDBDT forward curve, formation of repo market and overnight index swap market, improving the acceptability of DIBOR and development of a platform for secondary trading of securities and subsequent integration with MI module and replication of relevant other best market practices were discussed in the seminar.
Mr. S.K. Sur Chowdhury, Deputy Governor, Bangladesh Bank, noted that one of the major problems in the development of a vibrant secondary bond market is the absence of govt. and non-govt. pension fund. Bangladesh Bank took the initiative and instructed the commercial banks to invest the amount of their provident or pension funds for the employees in treasury securities within December 2015. Bangladesh Bank also took the initiative with help of the govt. to establish Islamic Bond market. Some work has already been done in this regard but, he further noted that there are miles to go. The Deputy Governor ended his speech by sharing an innovative concept of effective trading of securitized SME loans in the bond market and educating the retail customer base to shift investment of their savings to treasury securities.

August 19, 2015 MasterCard encourages electronic payments in Bangladesh Announces Winners of 'Card-Start-Go!' Campaign in association with BRAC Bank
MasterCard in association with BRAC Bank announced the winners of its unique 'Card-Start-Go!' campaign for its Debit cardholders. The campaign was designed to encourage cardholders to use their Debit cards for payment-related purposes instead of using them only as an ATM Card. Mr. Mohammad Tanvir Alam Chowdhury, Ms. Masuma Rahman and Mr. Redwan Rashid were announced as the top three winners of the campaign who received a holiday package of 2 nights and 3 days in Malaysia including air tickets. In addition, more than 24 winners received consolidation prizes including mobile phones and gift vouchers. Present at the prize giving ceremony was Mr. Syed Mohammad Kamal, Country Manager from MasterCard and Firoz Ahmed Khan, Head of Retail Banking from BRAC Bank along with other senior representatives.
'Card-Start-Go' was a nationwide campaign, through which MasterCard cardholders earned points by using their Debit Card for personal consumption and a transaction of minimum BDT 1,000. To be eligible for participating in this Campaign, a MasterCard Debit Cardholders needed to do at least four (4) transactions of minimum BDT 1,000 each during the campaign period. The campaign ran from March 22, 2015 to May 31st, 2015.
A significant part of the transaction volume in Bangladesh still accounts for only cash withdrawals through ATMs. MasterCard's 'Card-Start-Go' campaign is aimed to bring a change in this practice and digitize payments for the ease and benefit of its cardholders.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Syed Mohammad Kamal, Country Manager, MasterCard Bangladesh said, "We are delighted to introduce 'Card-Start-Go' campaign for our Debit cardholders in partnership with BRAC Bank. This campaign has been specially designed to digitize payments for our customers and help them move towards debit card payments. Harishangkar Jaldas, Sushmita Islam and Muzib Erom have won 'BRAC Bank-Samakal Shahitya Puroshkar 2014'.
Harishangkar Jaldas won the award for his book 'Protidondi' in poetry and novel category, Sushmita Islam for her book 'Amar Dinguli' in essay, autobiography, travel story and translation category, and Muzib Erom for his book 'Kobibangsho' in 'Humayun Ahmed Young Writer' category.
BRAC Bank and Daily Samakal launched the literary award in 2011 to inspire writers and litterateurs to further enriching Bangla literature with their creative works. Later Young Writer's Award was dedicated in memory of late legendary novelist Humayun Ahmed.
The award was announced at a program at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka on June 12, 2015. Literary personalities and social elites of the country attended the award program. Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director & CEO, BRAC Bank Limited, and Mr. Golam Sarwar, Editor of Daily Samakal, were present.
Winners in each category received Tk. 1 lac as prize money. The winners also received crest and citation. The three winning books were selected from books published in the year 2014.
Since its inception the literary award has generated huge enthusiasm in literary community of Bangladesh. A total of 476 books were submitted this year for the three categories. A panel of jury comprising Prof. Mustafa Nurul Islam, Prof. Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, Poet Asad Chowdhury and novelist Selina Hossain have selected the winning books.
This literary award will inspire creative minds and will provide writers especially the young writers a platform to practice and flourish in literature. Reader community will get quality books.

April 12, 2015 BRAC Bank opens new branch in Gandaria
BRAC Bank has opened a new branch in Gandaria to provide most modern banking services to growing customers in the older part of the city.
Mr. Fazlur Rahman, Chairman, City Group, formally inaugurated the branch on Distillery Road on April 12, 2015 in presence of Mr. Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director & CEO, BRAC Bank, and senior officials of the bank.
On the occasion, Mr. Syed Mahbubur Rahman, said, "As part of larger BRAC family, BRAC Bank always strives to reach out to more people and cover more areas. April 12, 2015 BRAC Bank sponsors Bappa Majumdar's first solo Rabindra Sangeet album "Bedhecchi Amar Pran"
BRAC Bank has sponsored the first solo album of exclusively Rabindra Sangeet from celebrated musician Bappa Mazumdar. The album, featuring eight songs, has been titled "Bedhecchi Amar Pran".
The album was released today in a launching event organized in a restaurant in the capital. Present at the launching, other Bappa Majumdar himself were theatre personality Sankar Saojal, musician Partha Majumdar, Girono Bangladesh Pvt. Limited and MK Group Chairman Motiur Rahman, Girono Bangladesh Pvt. Limited Managing Director Shuvojit Rai and BRAC Bank Head of Communications and Service Quality, Zara Jabeen Mahbub.
"Bedhecchi Amar Pran" is being sponsored by BRAC Bank and released by Girono Bangladesh. The album consists of 8 Rabindranath songs sung by Bappa Majumdar. The songs are: Amar Poran Jaha Chai, Ami Chini Go Chini, Tumi Kono Kanoner Ful, Bhalobeshe Shukhi, Emon Dine Tare Bola Jai, Ami Tomar Shonge Bedhecchi, Purono Shei Diner Kotha and Mone Di Didha. Bappa Majumdar has himself recreated and composed the music for the songs.
Regarding the album, Bappa Majumdar said, "I've worked on Rabindra Sangeet a number of times for other people, but I've always wanted to make a Rabindra Sangeet album of my own. I'm very satisfied to finally have accomplished that. I've made this album with a lot of care, now it is up to the listeners to say how it is."
The songs will be available in 250 countries, in 750 different portals. In Bangladesh it is available from rokomari.com and all the Deshal showrooms.

March 02, 2015 Zara Jabeen Mahbub appointed as the Head of Communication & Service Quality at BRAC Bank
Ms. Zara Jabeen Mahbub joined BRAC Bank Limited (BBL) on March 23, 2009. She has 19 years of multifaceted work experience in various industries in both Bangladesh and the US while working primarily in strategic marketing.
Zara obtained her BBA from North South University (NSU) Dhaka with a concentration in Marketing and International Business. She later earned her MBA from The University of California Berkeley's Haas School of Business focusing on Strategic Marketing and Non-profits.
While as an undergraduate student at NSU, Zara began her career in 1996 in the ready-made garments (RMG) and textile industries in Bangladesh as she took over her family business. Upon graduating in 1998 she joined the IT consulting firm iQuest Consultatns Inc. at its Detroit, Michigan office where she worked as a web developer and later as a corporate sales manager. In 2002 she joined Vision Manufacturing Inc. (VMI), an electronic manufacturing company, in San Diego, California, as its Marketing Manager where she managed the regional customer base generating 60% of VMI's annual revenue. In 2005 she founded Jamdani Inc., a handicraft company that catered Bangladeshi handicraft products to the US market.
Upon completing her MBA from Haas, she moved to Bangladesh in 2009 and joined BRAC Bank where she has since served as the Heads of Service Quality, Premium Banking, Retail Marketing, Call Center and Customer Experience. Now as a member of BBL's Executive (Management) Committee, Zara's current responsibilities include External Affairs, Marketing, CSR and Service Quality.
Zara is married with two daughters.
February 23, 2015 BRAC Bank employees pay homage to language martyrs
BRAC Bank employees paid homage to the language martyrs at a programme on the occasion of "Amar Ekushey & International Mother Language Day".
The employees, dressed in black and white, gathered at the Head Office and placed a floral wreath at a symbolic Shaheed Minar while singing "Amar Bhaiyer Rakte Rangano Ekushey February, Ami Ki Bhulite Pari".
As a Bangladeshi Bank, every year BRAC Bank employees organize an Ekushey program to pay respect to the language heroes who sacrificed their lives for our mother tongue. This year employees took part in 'alpana' and the painting of a giant '21' commemorating 21st February at the Head Office.
Mr. Mohammad Mamdudur Rashid, Deputy Managing Director, BRAC Bank Limited, said, "Bangla language is the most melodious and the Bangla alphabets are most beautiful in the world. We are proud to have been blessed with a mother language like Bangla. Scores of people lay down their lives for the sake of this mother language. We are indebted to them. January 02, 2015 BRAC Bank employees run marathon for humanity
The employees of BRAC Bank organized a marathon titled "BRAC Bank DAUR 2015 – Kolyaner Pothochola" to raise fund for humanity.
Mr. Benazir Ahmed, Director General, Rapid Action Battalion was present as the Chief Guest at the annual marathon for humanity at Hatirjheel on January 2, 2015. Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director & CEO, BRAC Bank Limited, Management Committee Members of BRAC Bank and its subsidiaries were also present.
Dr. Samanta Lal Sen of Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Suinu Pru Marma, Captain, National Women Football Team, were also present.
For the first time since its inception in 2011, the bank has invited members from different echelons of society – such as guests from embassies, other banks, multinational companies and international development organizations to participate in the mini marathon. This is the first such marathon initiative by a bank in the country and unique in serving the humanity.
The marathon started at 7:00 a.m. in the morning. A total of 4,000 employees from BRAC Bank participated in the marathon that started from Police Plaza Point of Hatirjheel Point and ended at the same point covering 5.6km.
On the occasion, the employees raised a fund of more than Tk. 1.06 million, and the company doubled it to Tk. 2.12 million from its own fund.
BRAC Bank donated Tk. 1 million to Subarta Trust that works for the welfare and healthcare of old-aged people of the country. After the marathon, Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director & CEO, BRAC Bank Limited, handed over the cheque to Selina Akhtar, General Secretary and CEO, Subarta Trust.
Earlier this winter, a portion of the fund was utilized to distribute blankets to cold affected people in 3 Northern districts. Some 5,700 blankets and 3,000 warm clothes were distributed among underprivileged people in November, 2014 well ahead of winter.
In this memorable event, Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director & CEO, BRAC Bank Limited, said, "As a follower of 3P Philosophy – People, Planet and Profit, CSR is embedded in DNA of the bank. We involve our staff in social works to make the program sustainable. We are encouraged to see passion in our staff to contribute to society."
